CHECK OUT OUR NEW CURRICULUM PLANS

  • Update on Digital Home Learning

Thu 30 Apr 2020 Ms Jenkins

As many of you may be aware, the Welsh Government are keen to ensure all families have access to an IT device from which their children can continue to learn at home, hence our recent questionnaire - MANY thanks for assisting us with our task to find out who has what access to IT devices at home.

As a cluster of schools, we are looking to pool our school resources and distribute these fairly to families who currently have no devices at all. A few parents have inquired about receiving a device when their children are already currently using one from home; it is most unlikely that our supply will meet this demand.

I understand the difficulty involved in trying to allocate a device at home fairly among more than one child whilst also having to access it to complete your own work tasks - it is incredibly difficult but a brief timetable can assist! I The staff have planned many activities that do not have to be completed using an IT device; you have also shared with us some wonderful photographs detailing the activities you are all completing...these are great! BENDIGEDIG.

We have just submitted our collected information to the Local Authority - we await the next 'stage' of their digital plan.

Tomorrow, and thanks to the wonderful work of local businesses, craft and food parcels will be distributed to those 'most in need' from our car park. This is a wonderful community based project which we hope will bring a bit of joy to a number of you at this tricky time.

It has been queried as to how this can happen, especially since we cannot hand out paper copies of school work. I'm afraid that the Local Authority were clear that the copying, collating and handing out of 'work' could not happen; however, they have agreed for the distribution of boxes from the car park, since no one will be entering the school building in order to put these together. The boxes will arrive at the car park ready to be passed on - social distancing measures will be in place and we ask that these are adhered to.

Diolch am eich dealltwriaeth yn ystod yr amser anodd hwn - thank you for your continued understanding at this difficult time.

  • POWYS Press Release

    Tue 21 Apr 2020

      Powys News Release

    April 21, 2020

    For Immediate Release

New ways of working to provide effective learning for Powys pupils

Parents of Powys school children are being reassured by senior education officers that they are not expected to recreate school at home, the county council has said.

Powys County Council has been working hard with headteachers and the schools’ community in dealing with the coronavirus impact that has caused significant disruption to the education system.

Wales’ Education Minister Kirsty Williams published a policy statement called ‘Stay Safe, Stay Learning’ which aims to support learners, leaders, governors, practitioners, parents and carers in dealing with the impact of coronavirus.

Further information on Welsh Government’s Stay Safe, Stay Learning: Continuity of Learning Policy Statement can be found https://gov.wales/stay-safe-stay-learning

“Our priority is to keep children safe but we also need to keep them learning so that they can catch up as quickly as possible when it is safe for schools to re-open. We are very fortunate that we have access to digital learning platforms and the latest online classroom tools, and it is working well.

“I would like to reassure parents that we are in a good position to maintain teaching and learning for our young people in different ways. Our aim is to motivate and engage with all our learners with a range of relevant activities to ensure both educational delivery as well as safeguarding their wellbeing.

“However, I want to make it clear that parents are not teachers and many are feeling the pressure to create a mini-school at home. Teaching will be provided by the teaching professionals and we are asking parents to support their children’s learning at home.

“We do not expect parents to be formal teachers but we do need to provide support to help them help their children. This includes support for their mental and physical wellbeing, which is equally as important, especially at this time.”

Individual schools will be in direct contact with their own parents with further information on how the teaching and learning will be provided.

    For Immediate Release

Applications open for Early Years admissions

Applications are now open for children due to start pre-school in 2021, Powys County Council has said.

Parents or carers of children born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 can apply for a place in an early year setting ready to start in 2021.

Applications must be completed and submitted by Friday, June 26, 2020.

The Welsh Government funds the council to ensure that all children in Powys have access to free part-time early years education from the beginning of the term following the child’s third birthday.

Each qualifying child can receive a maximum of 10 hours per week of funded early years education if they attend an approved, funded pre-school education setting.

Children eligible for free part time education will only receive the funded place if they are attending an approved funded pre-school education setting.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “All parents and carers should complete this application as soon as possible to ensure that their child has a place at their preferred early years / pre-school setting next year.

“If it is not completed in time, this this may jeopardise their child’s place at their preferred setting.”

The application form can be downloaded by searching Apply for Pre-School (3 and 4 yr olds) Early Years Education at www.powys.gov.uk

Please submit your completed application and a clear copy (photo or scan) or your child’s birth to preschooladmissions@powys.gov.uk

  • Free ZAP anti bullying workshops and Internet Safety Course from Kidscape

    Mon 20 Apr 2020

    ZAP Community Online

We have had great success in recently adapting our ZAP resilience programmes for children, parents and carers so that they can be delivered in a virtual learning environment. ZAP Community Online is a FREE one hour workshop for young people aged 9-16 who are dealing with a bullying situation, or have experienced bullying. ZAP provides young people with a range of tools to increase assertiveness, build confidence and help manage bullying situations. It is expected that parents or carers will be present with their children during the morning session. As part of ZAP Community Online we also provide a supporting session for parents and carers.

The next ZAP online workshops are due to run on Monday 27th April and Wednesday 6th May. The ZAP workshop takes place in the morning from 10-11.30am followed by the ZAP parent workshop at 1-3pm later in the same day.

Please contact Carole via email at carole@kidscape.org.uk if you wish to register for these ZAP workshops which are interactive and lots of fun!

    Online Safety and Awareness course

Kidscape offer for parents and carers, an Online Safety and Awareness session, which runs for 1.5 hours and aims to equip parents and carers with knowledge to understand the potential risks associated with keeping children and young people safe online. The internet is a wonderful tool for children and young people to use, however, during the sessions we deliver, we will learn about harmful content online, cyber bullying, gaming, live streaming, sexting and much more. The Online Safety and Awareness session is run via the Zoom platform and is straightforward to use.

We will soon be releasing dates when the sessions will be running and if you would like to register for the sessions, please contact Carole via email at carole@kidscape.org.uk

    15/04/20 UPDATE

HERE IS THE LINK TO POWYS TO APPLY FOR FSM PAYMENTS

FAO Parents with children eligible for Free School Meals

Our teams are currently in the process of contacting all parents and carers of entitled free school meal pupils. This is to check that we have their contact details correct prior to issuing any vouchers or payments.

We have a Tesco voucher scheme set up, which we know will not suit everyone, however we are also in the process of also setting up a Pay Point “cash out” scheme,  where parents will receive a voucher via SMS or email which they will be able to cash at a local pay point store (for cash).

If neither of these options are suitable, then parents will be able to contact the Income & Awards Team on 01597 826345 and request a payment to their bank accounts. Parents will receive £15.00 per week per child, this will include this week (30th March – 3rd April) and also over the Easter break period. Then ongoing fortnightly. Voucher queries can be made on 01597 826660, although all parents will be contacted by our team.

The Pay Point voucher scheme is taking a little longer to set up and should be available within 1-2 weeks, but we are pushing to get this set up as quickly as possible. Our teams are working hard to get this arranged ASAP.
