Spring Term 2023

World War Two

Our new topic is World War Two (chosen by the children last term). We have already made a great start!

We started the topic by learning about the events leading up to the war, which the children presented as a timeline.

As well as this, we have found out about Adolf

Hitler and the role he played in the war. The children researched him and then chose how they wanted to present the information. Some wrote biographies, some created two page spreads, some made Power

Point presentations (which they will present to the class) and some made booklets or posters.

Our Workshop

Last week, the children enjoyed a World War Two themed workshop in school run by Mrs Janet Holcroft from the Regimental Museum in Brecon.
Throughout the day, the pupils got to hold artefacts, try on costumes and learn lots of new facts about World War Two.

Follow up work

Following on from the workshop, the pupils planned and created their own recount booklets/posters, recounting in detail what they did in chronological order. They also included any new facts they learned and lots of photos and illustrations.
Here are pictures of some of their fantastic work!

Presentations

Christmas holiday homework was to prepare a presentation to deliver to the class on any topic. The children have all worked so hard on their presentations and we have loved watching them all.

Here are some photos of some of the presentations we have enjoyed so far!

UK Parliament Week

This week, we have taken part in UK Parliament Week! We began by learning about the House of Commons, the House of Lords, our Prime Minister and the Government. We also found how how the voting system is run in our country and how petitioning can result in topics being debated in the Houses of Parliament!

One of the topics that was recently debated in London was the motion, ‘Require schools to make Friday part of the school weekend.’ We decided to debate this ourselves in groups! We came up with our own ‘for’ and ‘against’ points for the topic and used the internet to carry out our own research to strengthen them. Then came the debating!

Check out the photos and videos below of our debating fun!
