Eco Club

Our Eco Committee consists of a group of enthusiastic, hard-working pupils ranging from Year 1 to Year 6. We currently meet weekly to discuss ways to improve our school – with plans to soon create an after-school Eco club!

Our long-term goal is to achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award following the seven-step framework!

Currently, our action plan consists of the following goals:

  1. Reduce overall waste across the school.
Eco committee members monitor the usage of paper and food waste in class on a weekly basis and award an Eco Class of the Week certificate in assembly!

  2. Save energy across the school.
Eco committee members additionally monitor the usage of energy used in each class and encourage staff to turn off lights and electronic devices when not in use!

  3. Improving our school grounds.
Our current plans moving forward are to create a school vegetable patch to grow our own vegetables. Additionally, we aim to clear and improve our outdoor learning area during the summer term.

  4. Caring for wildlife.
Once our outdoor areas have been cleared, we aim to plant insect-attracting plants and flowers to promote wildlife in our school. We also aim to encourage all pupils to look after living things (no matter how small!)

  5. Supporting our local community.
Our Eco Committee are very keen to support our local area by litter picking around the town; they have already identified areas that appear to be heavily littered, so we plan to carry out our visit in the upcoming term! We additionally aim to launch a poster competition in our school to stop littering, with the winning poster(s) to be displayed around town!
