Sports Day 2021
Friday 18th June 2021.
What a fun filled sports day we had!!
Summer Term 2021
We are all so happy to be reunited in school again. This term our topic is 'Burps, bottoms and bile' and here is some of the fantastic learning that has taken place in Dosbarth Collen!
We started off our topic by carrying out a 'spit test' where we were learning the importance of saliva. We discovered that if we didn't have any saliva then our food would get stuck in our oesophagus and we would probably choke.
We have spent a lot of time researching the different types of teeth that we have in our mouths. We found out that an adult can have up to 32 teeth but not all adults will due to not everybody getting wisdom teeth. We created a double-page spread on the different types of teeth. Have a look at some examples below which include lots of information are very eye-catching.
We also spent time thinking about what teeth we use to eat different foods during our 'afternoon breakfast'. Next time you eat a meal have a think about the different roles your teeth play.
The children in Dosbarth Collen carried out an investigation into what effect different liquids have on our teeth. We put an egg into a jar filled with a liquid and left it for 5 days. The liquids we used were water, vinegar, coffee, orange juice, coke and milk. We used eggs because the shell of an egg is made up of similar minerals to the enamel on our teeth. Can the children in Dosbarth Collen tell you what they found out?
Dosbarth Collen have an excellent understanding of how the digestive system works. We have spent a lot of time working on the different roles the parts of the digestive system play and used our new found knowledge to write a fantasy narrative about the journey food takes. Below are some examples of the wonderful stories written. Da iawn pawb!
Welcome back to Autumn Term 2.

The children had a great afternoon designing and making their own pizza faces today 🍕🍕🍕 I hope they tasted as good as they looked. Tomorrow we will be labelling the pizza pictures using Skitch and giving the toppings alternative names as we have been looking at Roald Dahl's 'Revolting Recipes.' Watch this space!!!
Wednesday 19th June
What a fantastic day we’ve had up at the Elan Valley today.
Our first session started with us making smelly potions, we collected and added items we found in the woods and gave them exciting names. We then made some clay animals and hid them in the woods and then learnt how to start our own camp fire🔥 and cooked some toast for our snack.
Our second session was a walk and Bug Hunt with Phil🕷🐛🐜 We collected lots of different bugs (and Phil named every single one of them) using nets and pots before finally setting them free!
Our final session was picnic time and a play in the park!!
A really fantastic day was had by all and even the sun came out so we thought we best celebrate by having ice cream🍦🍦
Tuesday 7th May 2019
Today, as part of our new topic, ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers,’ we were visited by A & S Animal Encounters.
The children were lucky enough to meet ‘Sonic’ the Lesser Tenrec, from Madagascar, ‘Bumblebee,’ the 3 banded Armadilo, ‘Biscuit’ the Bearcat, ‘Frank’ the Possum and ‘Bobby’ and ‘George’ the Meerkats. The children had a fantastic afternoon meeting the animals and asking lots of questions😄
